The weather has turned down right cold the last few days and one bad thing about delivering newspapers we can not stay home if it is to cold outside. We are pretty much like the mail carriers neither rain nor snow or gloom of night will keep us from the delivery of the newspapers. I wish we got paid as well as letter carries do and where is our strong union at when we need it. I love my job and it is only a couple of months until it warms back up then we have a great job working at night and sleeping during the day when it is hot outside.

It has been touch and go if our business is going to make it to the new year. The high price of gasoline and other expenses this summer have about put us under the barn so to speak. Let us hope that the lower price of gasoline and other expenses will enable us to turn the corner and make our business a profitable one. I have been thinking about taking on another job just to keep the bills paid until the economy gets better. I really do not want to do that but I may be forced after Christmas to seek another job.

This last week we had our first little snow of the year. I am in no way ready for the snow to start falling, I will have to dig out my snow supplies, my ice scraper and snow chains, just to be ready in case we get a heavy snow. I keep an extra blanket and some water and food in the car just in case. You never know if you will end up stranded and have to wait for someone to come rescue you when the weather turns bad. I have good tires on the truck but ice can put even the best equipped driver in the ditch, and it never pays to be lax on supplies for winter.

Homemade cookies are a special treat around our house we do not make them very often and last night I helped make a batch to take to work as a treat for our drivers. I am not a great cook by any stretch of the imagination but the cookies turned out dam fine if I do say so myself. It was a team effort my wife lets me help once in a while just to humor me but I am sure she would want me not allowed in the kitchen at all if she had her way about it. The cookies were a hit and I was pleased about that, I was afraid to tell the guys that I made them I gave all the glory to my wife and they believed that she made them so if any of them get sick I can blame her about that too.

Since I needed to fill up my truck with gasoline today I went down to the station and to my amazement all three of the gasoline stations near my house were out of every kind of gasoline that they sell. So I started looking for a station that had gasoline for sale and I had to go five miles to even find a station that had gasoline for sale. After a two hour wait in a line that seemed to go on forever I was able to get my truck filled up, I have never had to sit in a line that long to get anything let alone gasoline. Let us hope that this clears up soon it will be drastic to think that gasoline will be in that short supply for the long term. It would be the end of many small businesses if it was.
