National mobile alert system

Friday, April 11th, 2008

America will soon have a national alert system via text messaging on their cell phones and other mobile devices, nearly 80 percent of Americans have cell phones and the Government sees it as a great way to alert a mass amount of people in certain affected areas that are hit by severe weather like Katrina or Terrorists attacks like 9/11.

Of course one day I see this going even further like the Government alerting you that you have a warrant or you are behind on taxes or any other service the Government runs, but for now I am happy that in case of a severe emergency I can be notified on my cell phone via a text message.

Cell Zone

The company issued my cell phone. They use Sprint. The phone is Samsung - nothing special. I just want to be able to get the calls from my customers and make the calls I need when I’m not in the office.

Last winter’s business trip to Pennsylvania was an eye opener. Driving from Gettysburg to Harrisburg, both are maybe third tier cities but definitely metropolitan areas. Absolutely no cell phone service the entire trip. No bars. No calls.

Just got back from Winchester, VA. Guess what? No bars. No calls. What is up with Sprint? It’s no good to me if I can’t get calls when I’m on the road. Have you even tried to find a pay phone lately? They’re gone.
