It was a year ago this week that North Nashville was destroyed by a vicious tornado. You do not think of February as a prime tornado month but it was last year. You do not think of Tennessee as a tornado magnet but we have the most deaths from the storms of any state in the nation and I really did not believe that until I moved here. One reason is the very bad weather forecasters we have and the hills hide the storms until they are right upon you and you can not get away from the storm in time.

In a couple of days my baby sister turns 46 and I can honestly say that I do not know what to get her for her birthday. I have been thinking about it quite a bit and have drawn a complete and total blank. Lat year I bought her a computer that she hates, I am in a no win situation on this deal. The best thing to do might be just to pretend that I forgot about her birthday, ok that will not work, I better get to working on this I only have 3 days.

I thus will opt for a secluded cabin with a fly fishing stream close by. Of course everyone knows where I will wind up this summer. In a crowd of people seeking the same thing that I am a clover filled field with running water close by. Looks like Disney will win again.

My wife loves the Outback Steakhouse and for her birthday we are going to have dinner with her sons there. I am a big fan of Longhorn Steakhouse, but Outback cooks a very good steak and that is good enough for me. The art of cooking a good steak is it seems a lost art form, we have gotten some steaks that were badly cooked the last few times we have tried to eat out and it seems we are better off grilling our own steaks at home. We cook out on the grill a lot and it is pretty easy and costs a lot less so we will be cooking steaks at home more in the next few months.

We are pretty much like the mail carriers neither rain nor snow or gloom of night will keep us from the delivery of the newspapers. I wish we got paid as well as letter carries do and where is our strong union at when we need it. I love my job and it is only a couple of months until it warms back up then we have a great job working at night and sleeping during the day when it is hot outside.

We have a couple of mice that have thrown our kitchen into a state of disrepair, we have been unable to catch them, we have tried many times. The are so smart they steal the peanut butter off the mouse trap and escape all the time. The worst part is we can not leave the butter out to be soft when we want to use it because they love butter as much as we do. We will step up our efforts to catch these critters so our lives can go back to normal, soon.

Man is it cold outside, it is going to get down into the single digits tonight and I am not ready for that at all. I will have to leave a drip going in the pipes to keep it from freezing up and busting. I sure do not want to deal with a busted pipe on a cold day like tomorrow is going to be. They are calling for flurries and temps in the mid twenties. That is to much like winter for me. I want it closer to eighty and a nice cool drink with an umbrella to cool me off man is that a pipe dream today.

If you thought the Friday after Thanksgiving was the only Black Friday this year you were quite wrong. Today is being called Black and Blue Friday because the store are cutting prices on the holiday stock they had bought to get it sold before the end of the year. Electronics will be very cheap and I plan to get me some quality electronic items at bargain basement prices. I am not sure where the blue comes in to title but let us hope no one gets banged up to bad on this great shopping day.

I have to work every day right up till Christmas and today will be my only chance to get away and buy the few gifts I have left to purchase. I hate to wait till the last minute because the crowds get nastier and meaner the closer to Christmas you get. I mean on Black Friday they killed a security guard in a Wal-Mart, what is it going to be like the closer we get to Christmas?

It has been touch and go if our business is going to make it to the new year. The high price of gasoline and other expenses this summer have about put us under the barn so to speak. Let us hope that the lower price of gasoline and other expenses will enable us to turn the corner and make our business a profitable one. I have been thinking about taking on another job just to keep the bills paid until the economy gets better. I really do not want to do that but I may be forced after Christmas to seek another job.

December 7th has always been a special day in my family, a whole lot of the poor families in Oklahoma had family members in the military service late in 1941, no money to be made on the farm so the boys all went to the Navy and a lot of them from my area were on ships at Pearl Harbor on that dreadful day. My small town in Oklahoma lost 14 men on that day and out of a town of 300 people that was a devastating loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to the families that lost brave sailors and marines on that day and let us hope that nothing like that ever happens again.

Today as we went out to walk the dogs both times we took them out it began to rain on us. I think Mother Nature waits until we walk outside to let the rain fall sometimes. I know the dogs hate to be locked up in the house but we can not trust them to stay close so we have to take them out on leashes. Buck would run until he got tired and then not know where he was, he is the one that we have to keep an eye on, he is quick for a fat little dog. I guess it is about time to take the dogs out again so I better get my rain gear ready.

This last week we had our first little snow of the year. I am in no way ready for the snow to start falling, I will have to dig out my snow supplies, my ice scraper and snow chains, just to be ready in case we get a heavy snow. I keep an extra blanket and some water and food in the car just in case. You never know if you will end up stranded and have to wait for someone to come rescue you when the weather turns bad. I have good tires on the truck but ice can put even the best equipped driver in the ditch, and it never pays to be lax on supplies for winter.

Today is a huge game in this great season the Tennessee Titans are putting together. They go after win number 10 in a row to start a season. The previous record for the franchise was 3 in a row to start a season. I wonder if the 72 dolphins are worried yet? Maybe after the game today they will start to worry. Today the Jacksonville Jaguars are the next victim and I can not wait to get this game in the books this team worries me a bit this may be the toughest game left for the Titans to finish 16-0. I guess the second Indy game will be a ball buster too and I can not wait to get another chunk of Peyton Manning I think he is a chump and love when his team loses. GO TITANS!
